35th anniversary of the UCA Martyrs
Remembering the UCA Martyrs
In the middle of the night on November 16th,1989 Ignacio Ellacuría S.J., Ignacio Martín-Baró S.J., Segundo Montes S.J., Juan Ramón Moreno S.J., Joaquín López y López S.J., Amando López Quintana S.J., Elba Ramos, and Celina Ramos were murdered at the Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) José Simeón Cañas. These brutal assassinations were part of 12 years of violence and repression in El Salvador.
Today, we remember the lives of so many brothers and sisters and we carry on the legacy of the Salvadoran Martyrs, continuing to advocate for peace and justice for all people.
Casa de solidaridad alumni community
In Solidarity With Our Salvadoran Friends And Families
For nearly 20 years, the Casa de la Solidaridad program was an intensive community-based learning program run by Santa Clara University. Inspired by the lives of the six UCA Jesuits, Casa offered a unique opportunity to study abroad in El Salvador while living in community with other undergraduate students from the United States and learning directly from Salvadoran community members through a praxis learning model.
Today, the extensive and diverse Casa alumni community continues to stand in solidarity with the Salvadoran people. Transformed by our time at Casa, we remain committed to justice and peace inspired by faith, love, and hope.

Casa de solidaridad alumni gatherings
Celebrating the promise of hope and joy that defines our casa community, let’s get together again! Over the next two and a half months, we want to organize Casa Alumni reunions (in person and online)!
If you are interested in hosting a reunion, contact John Byrd (j.byrd@weareaji.org) and we will help you get the ball rolling!
