CONTEXT
“Welcome home.” With these two simple words, Fr. Dan Corrou, SJ extends a warm welcome to every migrant and refugee at Mass in the Arrupe Migrant Center in Beirut, Lebanon. Our work, rooted in the Jesuit values inspired by Pedro Arrupe, SJ, aims to turn these words into a tangible reality.
For over 35 years, the AMC has been a beacon of hope, standing in solidarity with migrants who seek dignified work and refugees from minority communities. Under the Kafala system, migrants face challenges akin to modern-day slavery, deprived of basic rights. As a community of migrant leaders, Jesuits, and volunteers, we strive to champion migrant rights and create a welcoming haven for those in need.
Progams & Activities
AMC Lebanon
- Welcoming migrant-led organizations with space and support, providing a place for communities to exercise their own agency, build community, and celebrate their cultures.
- Fostering the faith of migrant and refugee communities, through weekly Masses, sacramental life, and pastoral care.
- Caring for the basic needs of migrants and refugees, ensuring life-saving medical care, educational assistance, and support for those most in need.
- Connecting migrants to their communities, raising awareness of legal rights and available services, and advocating on behalf of marginalized community members.
