Yesterday, two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela, occurring within seconds of each other. Thousands spent the night outside their homes in fear of aftershocks. Schools across the region have been closed for the week—leaving children and young people served by Fe y Alegría Venezuela without the safety and stability their schools normally provide.
In this crisis, those schools will become critical communal spaces—sites of shelter, aid distribution, and healing for traumatized families. We are still assessing damage to Fe y Alegría’s facilities, but their role in the coming weeks will be vital. So will your support.
Even as the earth trembles around them, Fr. Alfredo Infante, S.J., the Provincial of the Jesuits in Venezuela, reminds us of God’s enduring presence in the midst of catastrophe:
“God is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in distress. Thus we do not fear, though earth be shaken and mountains quake to the depths of the sea.” – Psalms 46:2-3
We are working with our Jesuit partners in Venezuela—including our brothers and sisters at Fe y Alegría—to conduct rapid assessments and mobilize emergency assistance. Immediate priorities are temporary shelter, relief supplies, protection services, and psychological support for traumatized families.
We need your support.
